Public Prosecutor Ibrahima Ndiaye spoke on Tuesday about the death of student Abdoulaye Bâ, who lost his life during the events of February 9 at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD). The magistrate stated that, based on the current state of the investigation, the theory of police brutality against the deceased has been ruled out.

“We are not talking about the brutality that may have been observed on other students and even on motorcycles, and the investigation is addressing that aspect. But, at this stage of the investigation, no brutality was inflicted on this student Abdoulaye Bâ who, unfortunately, died following a fall from the fourth floor,” he told the press.
What the deceased's roommates told the police
The magistrate stated that some of the deceased's roommates were interviewed. "They formally stated that they were not beaten, much less brutalized, by the defense and security forces," he said. Ibrahima Ndoye stated that the smoke and fire that had broken out in the deceased's room prevented any possibility of entering the dormitory corridor. As a result, the students, who were somewhat trapped, had no other option than to escape through the window.
The sealed emergency exit, the other indirect cause
“Because the emergency exit that was supposed to allow them to escape and save what they could was sealed shut on the orders of certain Coud officials,” the prosecutor added. Forced to flee, as they were on the verge of asphyxiation from the smoke, the deceased and some of his roommates escaped through the window, he said.
As for the deceased's companions, who jumped like him, some landed on both feet with sprains and fractures. "But Abdoulaye Ba, while trying to jump, missed one of the steps and unfortunately fell. He landed on his left side," stated the public prosecutor.
