Lutte contre l’orpaillage illégal : Trois dragues et une pirogue détruites à Saeinsoutou
A security operation and a crackdown on illegal gold mining was successfully carried out on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at around 11 a.m., in the village of Saeinsoutou located along the left bank of the Falémé, in the department of Saraya.
According to Seneweb sources, elements of the Saraya brigade, supported by the Rapid Action Surveillance and Intervention Group (GARSI) based in Saeinsoutou, intervened following intelligence indicating illegal alluvial gold mining activities carried out by Malian nationals in this border area.
The intervention of the defense and security forces (FDS) resulted in the destruction of three artisanal dredges and a dugout canoe used for the illegal extraction of gold in the bed of the Falémé river.
No incidents were reported during the operation, which is part of the ongoing efforts of the security forces to combat illegal gold mining, protect the environment and preserve the safety of local populations.
The security forces reaffirm their determination to continue these operations in order to put an end to illegal activities in the gold mining areas of the Kédougou region.
