Lutte Contre la Migration Irrégulière : L'Espagne Offre 2 Vedettes à la Gendarmerie et à la Police Sénégalaises
As part of strengthening bilateral cooperation in maritime security, the Kingdom of Spain officially handed over two patrol boats to the Senegalese security forces on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
The handover ceremony took place at the Admiral Faye Gassama Naval Base in the presence of authorities from both countries.
It was co-chaired by Mr. Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, Minister of the Interior and Public Security of Senegal, and Mr. Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gomez, Minister of the Interior of the Kingdom of Spain.
Among the personalities present were Mrs. Dolores Rios Peset, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Senegal, Major General Martin Faye, High Commander of the National Gendarmerie and Director of Military Justice, Inspector General of Police Mame Seydou Ndour, Director General of the National Police, Rear Admiral Abdou Sène, Chief of Staff of the National Navy, and Brigadier General Assane Beye, Commander of the Territorial Gendarmerie.
Numerous other diplomatic and military authorities also attended this event, which marked solidarity between the two nations.
The two boats handed over bear the symbolic names of Vedette Joal and Vedette Mouhamed Ndao. They are intended respectively for the National Gendarmerie and the National Police of Senegal.
This new equipment significantly strengthens the national operational framework deployed to combat the scourge of irregular migration, which particularly affects the Senegalese coast. The patrol boats will allow security forces to intensify their maritime patrols and improve their intervention capabilities at sea.
The official handover was formalized by the signing of the donation documents between the Spanish and Senegalese authorities present.
The ceremony concluded on an honorary note with the awarding of decorations to the High Commander of the National Gendarmerie and the Director General of the National Police. The two senior security officials received the insignia of the Silver Cross of the Order of Individual Merit of the Guardia Civil, a distinction recognizing Spain's commitment to combating irregular migration.

Pourquoi la police nationale? J’aurais compris si c'était la Douane. La police n’ a pas unité maritime opérationnelle capable d’intervenir en haute mer
