The legal dispute between the multinational Maersk Line and businessman Mor Dieng, which began in 2023, has taken a new turn at the Dakar Commercial Court. The case, heard on December 12, has been adjourned again until March 6 for deliberation.
At the heart of the dispute: two containers (estimated at more than 200 million CFA francs) which almost went to auction, before being withdrawn at the last minute from sale by the Customs administration, explains L'Observateur.
As reported by the newspaper of the Future Media Group, Mor Dieng maintains that these shipments, which arrived in Senegal in June 2022, are being illegally blocked by Maersk Line following a disagreement over additional charges.
Unable to recover its goods, which are now badly deteriorated after three years of storage, the economic operator is now claiming several hundred million in damages from the shipping company.
Faced with the slowness of the procedure and fearing a further postponement in 2026, Mor Dieng has written to the Minister of Justice to request an acceleration of the judgment, the same source reports.
