Contentieux social aux Chemins de fer : Les ex-temporaires dénoncent les agissements l'État qui tarde à payer sans motif valable
The Agreement of former temporary workers of the Senegalese Railways Authority, during a general meeting held this Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in front of the gates of the national company Les Chemins de Fer du Sénégal, called upon national and international public opinion to witness the "actions of the State of Senegal, which is delaying payment of the social dispute that binds us, and this without valid reason."
These Senegalese retirees say they are facing "enormous difficulties due to poor railway administration which, completely illegally, has squandered the careers of many so-called ex-temporary employees, who are now struggling to make a living." They draw attention to the fact that "many Senegalese are unaware that railway workers receive no pension at all, after more than 30 years of service and after having contributed to the IPRES, in accordance with the regulations, or receive only crumbs after such a long career."
Acting, they say, responsibly and in compliance with the texts and regulations that govern this country, these former rail workers say "they have always dialogued with the authorities and this since the regime of President Macky Sall who, it must be acknowledged and praised, had made giant steps and had it not been for the change, would have paid off."
For these former RCFS temporary workers, "the change of government to which we contributed was our saviour, because we thought that the injustices would give way to the settlement of this affair which has lasted too long, because we had complete confidence in the new regime which, today, is slow to settle our case despite promises."
"We have, with respect for the authorities, met with several State figures under the leadership of the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, including El Malick Ndiaye, then Minister of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport, and his successor Yankhoba Diémé, all thanks to the facilitation of the honorable deputy Amadou Ba."
They also said they had great hope after the statements made by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in Thiès during the legislative election campaign.
These former railway workers point out that this social dispute involving the elderly, widows, and orphans cannot wait, as these people struggle to feed themselves, provide healthcare, and pay for their children's schooling. They hope that the State, the guarantor of freedoms, rights, and justice, will act urgently to make this matter a thing of the past.
