Coupures intempestives d’électricité à Kédougou : Populations et commerçants tirent la sonnette d’alarme

For several days, residents of Kédougou have been facing repeated power outages, a situation that is causing concern and exasperation in this region of southeastern Senegal. Between the intense heatwave and increased domestic needs, these interruptions are severely disrupting daily life for households and economic activities. In several neighborhoods, residents report that the outages occur without warning and sometimes last for several hours.

"The heat is becoming unbearable."

In the Dandé Mayo neighborhood, Aïssatou Diallo, a housewife, explains that the power cuts complicate family life: "With this heat, we need fans almost all day. When the power goes out, the children don't sleep and the food spoils quickly."

Abdoulaye Kanté, a resident of the city center, shares the same concern: "The power cuts have become frequent lately. We don't understand what's happening, because there's no official information."

At the central market, several traders are reporting financial losses related to product preservation. Mamadou Ba, a frozen food vendor, warns: "With each power outage, we risk losing merchandise. We are forced to buy ice or rent generators, which increases our expenses."

In a press release, Senelec reported an incident on the power grid that caused a cable fault in the LT district of Kédougou and along the Tomboronkoto-Mako axis. An employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained: "Network stabilization operations are underway. Teams are mobilized to minimize disruptions and improve service continuity in the region."

People are demanding sustainable solutions

Despite these explanations, residents are calling for a lasting reinforcement of electrical infrastructure to avoid the recurrence of these outages, especially during periods of intense heat.

Many believe that population growth and the intensification of economic activity in the region require greater investment to stabilize the electricity distribution.

While waiting for a rapid improvement in the situation, the population hopes for more regular communication from technical services to better anticipate disruptions.
