Faced with harsh working conditions that have reached a critical level, members of the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor (FSDT) have sounded the alarm about the precariousness of the world of work. At a press conference this Thursday, September 25, at the headquarters of the CNTS Keur Madia, they warned of the difficulties faced by workers, thus expressing their position on economic and social problems.

"For more than five months, the commitments made in the pact between the social partners should be the subject of a quantified action plan for its operationalization and should include in the 2025 amending finance law an instruction from the Head of State to the government. More than thirty activities should be carried out for the year 2025, but to date, no action has been taken," declared Mody Guiro, their secretary general.

According to him, the measures announced during the meeting of August 6 at the Ministry of Labor with the social partners and certain ministries, in particular the adoption of decrees relating to the change of status of decision-making agents, the diligence of settling the files of workers dismissed at the Grand Theater, the Autonomous Port of Dakar, the Ministry of Mines, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dakar Dem Dikk and many others, the question relating to the generalization of the housing allowance for state agents, the implementation of the conclusions of the general states of transport (...) have also not been respected.

For the FSDT spokesperson, the law amending the Investment Code, adopted by the National Assembly on September 19, 2025, is a clear attempt by the government to call into question its commitments and break off social dialogue. "The revision of the Investment Code should be discussed and shared with social partners before its adoption by the National Assembly," he said.

Speaking to the press, FSDT members also denounced the threats of company closures and mass layoffs of workers, particularly in the construction and food sectors, the concession of Pier 4 of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, the Radisson Hotel in Diamniadio, the Tannerie du Sénégal (SENTA), and the risks facing the pharmaceutical company and the fishing sector. "These measures will, without a doubt, plunge workers and their families into the abyss," he said.

Regarding the press sector, the Secretary General highlighted the difficult situation of private press workers. "It is time for the State to consult with press stakeholders to find solutions that will guarantee the survival of the press and the consolidation of democracy in our country," he suggested.

He also stressed the urgency of renewing the deliberative bodies of the retirement provision institution (IPRES) and the Social Security Fund (CSS) in order to proceed with the appointment of the general director of these institutions.

The FSNT calls on workers and members who have signed the pact to mobilize to safeguard the achievements, calls on the Prime Minister and wishes to meet with him as soon as possible, in order to obtain the necessary clarifications.

While awaiting the authorities' reaction to this alert, the FNDT is drawing up the following action plan and preparing for new conquests: the organization of a general assembly of staff representatives on October 15, 2025; the organization of a national day of action with the filing of a notice of strike, sit-in, march and other actions and the organization of a national information campaign for mobilization across the country.
