Crise à l’UCAD : le Khalife général de Bambilor appelle l’État au dialogue direct avec les étudiants
The ongoing crisis at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) continues to provoke reactions within Senegalese society. In an open letter addressed to state authorities and students, the Caliph General of Bambilor, Thierno Amadou Ba, made a solemn appeal for calm, dialogue, and consideration of the human dimension in managing the situation.
The religious leader noted that several mediation attempts had already been made, including a meeting bringing together students, religious authorities, and other stakeholders. These initiatives had led to a temporary lull, proving, in his view, that dialogue remains not only possible but essential. However, recent events, including the closure of university restaurants, have reignited tensions on campus.
In his letter, Thierno Amadou Ba calls on the State to take "all necessary measures, taking into account the realities on the ground." While acknowledging the importance of the laws and principles governing public action, he believes their application must sometimes be "humanized" in order to preserve social peace and human dignity.
The Caliph General of Bambilor also commended the students' attitude, highlighting their dignity, sense of responsibility, and commitment to dialogue. He emphasized that their openness toward religious and moral authorities should not be interpreted as weakness or compromise, but rather as a sign of maturity and civic awareness. He reassured them that they were not alone and that they had the full support of the moral, religious, and social authorities.
Believing that the current situation requires a strong commitment from the highest levels of government, Thierno Amadou Ba is appealing directly to the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister. According to him, a lasting solution to the crisis requires listening directly and sincerely to the students.
He therefore argues for the organization of a frank and inclusive meeting between the highest authorities and the students, without intermediaries.
Such a gesture, he argues, would help to ease tensions, restore confidence and preserve the spirit of consultation that has always characterized the role of students in the recent history of Senegal.
The general khalifa of Bambilor reaffirms his willingness to support all parties in the search for just, peaceful and lasting solutions, while calling for divine protection and assistance for the country.
