Mort de Abdoulaye Ba à l'UCAD : Le ministre Bamba Cissé épinglé par Afrika Check, sa vidéo projetée est une fake news
At a press conference following the death of student Abdoulaye Ba at UCAD, Interior Minister Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé released images of students holding Molotov cocktails. The minister publicly accused these students of plotting attacks against restaurants, explaining that the young man with a hand grazed by a grenade was in fact the victim of actions by other UCAD students.
Following denials from students, supported by images, Afrika Check , a fact-checking agency, conducted an investigation and visited UCAD to verify the Interior Minister's claims. First, the team from the specialized media outlet was able to confirm that the image projected by Bamba Cissé did indeed originate from Pavilion A of UCAD.
Factual evidence and information gathered from officials at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) support the claim that the video presented by Interior Minister Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé to substantiate acts of violence committed by UCAD students predates February 9, 2026, contrary to his public statements. "We have observed that grilles are indeed installed on all the balconies at the front of the building, which is also the section appearing in the video shown by Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé," writes Afrika Check.
In conclusion, Afrika Check confirms that the video shown by the Minister of the Interior during his press conference is fake news, as it does not date from the events of February 9th. "The video shown by the Ministry of the Interior on February 9, 2026, predates this date and was therefore not filmed during the clashes in which student Abdoulaye Ba was killed," the report states.
Afrika Check adds that it contacted the police communications department, which was directed to the communications unit of the Ministry of the Interior, to exploit the metadata of the video in question to find out the exact date of its filming, but received no response.
