Décès de l’étudiant Abdoulaye Ba : la réaction surprenante de Waly Diouf Bodiang
The Director General of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, Waly Diouf Bodiang, also an executive of the Pastef party (in power), declared that the regime must "fully assume responsibility" for the death of student Abdoulaye Ba, which occurred in circumstances involving an intervention by the security forces.
"As a regime, we must take full responsibility for the death of student Abdoulaye Ba," Mr. Bodiang wrote in a post shared on social media.
According to him, this responsibility is "inherent to the exercise of power", insofar as it is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure the safety of all Senegalese, "a fortiori in the context of the intervention of the police forces".
The Director General of the Autonomous Port of Dakar believes, however, that this admission of responsibility should not hinder the discovery of the truth. "It does not diminish the imperative to clarify this reprehensible event and to apply justice in all its rigor," he emphasized.
Beyond the circumstances of the tragedy, the political leader called for structural measures to prevent such events from recurring in universities. "In accordance with our commitment to change, we must ensure that this can never happen again in the university environment, the temple of knowledge and freedom," he argued.
Waly Diouf Bodiang also offered his condolences to the family of the deceased. "I bow before the memory of the departed and offer my condolences to his family and to all of Senegal," he said.
The death of student Abdoulaye Ba has sparked strong reactions among the public and reignited the debate on the conditions of intervention by law enforcement in university spaces.
