Under the orders of Chief Warrant Officer Alassane Tounkara, the Diamniadio mixed gendarmerie brigade arrested eleven people involved in a vast network of clandestine slaughter and marketing of meat unfit for consumption on 1 October 2025 at 8 a.m.

Using reliable intelligence and repeatedly seized by complaints of repeated cattle thefts, the brigade developed a strategic intervention plan that quickly bore fruit. Among the eleven people taken into custody were the main perpetrators (prosecuted for illegal slaughter, marketing of unfit meat and endangering the lives of others): P. Ngom, 44, M. Ngom, 32, and A. Sow, 36, all butchers.

Eight people are being prosecuted for complicity, including the driver O. Touré, 68, and the butcher M. Ka, 57.

An organized network caught red-handed

The police surprised the suspects in an unsuitable and unsanitary place, in the midst of illegal activity. The individuals were butchering three bulls that had already been slaughtered in rudimentary conditions that violated hygiene standards, intended to flood the market with unfit meat, according to Seneweb sources. This exposed consumers to major health risks, seriously compromising food safety in the area.

During the operation, several pieces of evidence were seized at the scene, including three animal skins, 12 animal legs, three animal heads, 15 sharp objects (sabers and knives), a motor vehicle intended for the transport of the goods, a horse, 20 carcasses of meat already packaged and ready for sale.

The eleven individuals thus arrested were held in custody at the brigade for the purposes of the investigation, before being brought before the Rufisque public prosecutor's office on October 2, 2025, where they will have to answer for their actions in court.
