Diffamation et diffusion de fausses nouvelles : Le ministre Mabouba Diagne porte plainte contre plusieurs médias
The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock has followed through on his words. According to Seneweb, Mabouba Diagne has filed a complaint with the public prosecutor at the Dakar High Court. The complaint has been registered with the prosecutor's office under number 8815.
Mr. Diagne accuses several media outlets of defamation and spreading false news, following publications associating him with irregularities noted in a report by the Court of Auditors concerning the management of subsidized agricultural equipment.
According to the terms of the complaint filed by his counsel, Maitre Khadim Kébé, the events date back to Friday, May 15, 2026. Several newspapers and information platforms had relayed information relating to a report from the Court of Auditors dated 2025, mentioning anomalies in the management and monitoring of subsidized agricultural equipment provided by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Agricultural Bank.
In his complaint, the minister believes that certain media outlets have deliberately created confusion by illustrating their publications with his photo on the front page or by directly associating him with the irregularities mentioned in the Court of Auditors' document.
The targeted titles include the daily newspapers "Le Témoin", "Kritik", "Grand Place", "Le Parlement", as well as the websites Phoenix Browser and Senplus.
The minister believes that these publications were not simply part of an information mission, but a deliberate attempt to damage his honor and reputation.
Mabouba Diagne maintains that the accused bodies "cannot produce any evidence" demonstrating his personal involvement in any wrongdoing. He particularly emphasizes a point he considers fundamental: the agreements concerning subsidized agricultural equipment with the Agricultural Bank were concluded well before he took over the ministry.
He also points out that the provisional report from the Court of Auditors, which the media are referring to, does not name him as the perpetrator or accomplice of financial irregularities.
According to him, some media outlets have thus sought to present him as having been singled out for the sole purpose of creating a sensation.
Believing that these actions seriously damage his image, Mabouba Diagne has decided to sue the authors of the publications as well as any other person involved.
Attorney Khadim Kébé cited Articles 255 and 258 of the Penal Code concerning defamation and the dissemination of false news. The lawyer, who has also filed a complaint against persons unknown, requested an investigation to determine responsibility.
