Diourbel : un homme exhibe une arme et menace sa première épouse
In the village of Kadam, in the department of Diourbel, Mb. Diagne, a fifty-year-old farmer, was arrested and placed in the Maison d'arrêt et de correction (MAC) for illegal possession of firearms and death threats against his first wife, A. Faye.
According to L'Observateur, the incident began with a violent altercation between Mb. Diagne's two wives: A. Faye, the first, and Nd. Diop, the second, the latter having insulted her co-wife.
The newspaper points out that, instead of calming the situation, the husband sided with his second wife, provoking the anger of the first wife's children, who defended their mother.
Enraged, Mb. Diagne brandished a firearm and threatened to kill A. Faye. Fearing for his mother's life, one of A. Faye's children, a trained soldier, reported his father to the Diourbel gendarmerie brigade.
To make matters worse, the same source points out, a search of the accused's home revealed two military weapons in his bedroom. The farmer claimed to have inherited them from his father, but did not have any administrative authorization.
He was arrested and brought before the Diourbel prosecutor's office. The fifty-year-old has been in the Diourbel MAC since Monday, following a detention warrant issued against him, the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group adds.
