Disponibilité du sucre : La CSS rassure le marché à l’approche du ramadan
Just days before the start of Ramadan, a period of high consumption, the Senegalese Sugar Company (CSS) is seeking to reassure the public. Through an open house organized for its retail partners, the company unveiled its production capacities, available stocks, and the investments made to guarantee a regular supply to the national market, without risk of shortages.
This meeting, held in the presence of the prefect of Dagana and the director of Domestic Trade, aimed to strengthen collaboration with distributors and to establish a climate of trust around the availability of sugar in the coming weeks.
For CSS, the challenge is clear: to secure the supply of the Senegalese market at the dawn of the blessed month.
Speaking to partners, CSS CEO Guillaume Ranson emphasized the importance of this initiative. "We are very pleased to welcome all of our retail partners as Ramadan approaches. This open house aims to showcase, in a completely transparent manner, CSS's activities, particularly during the sugar campaign which began in November and will continue until the end of May," he stated.
Beyond the tour of the facilities, the management of CSS highlighted the significant investment efforts made within the framework of the development plan called KT 220. This program aims, in the medium term, for an annual production of 220,000 tons of sugar, equivalent to the national consumption of Senegalese households.
“We have shared with our partners all the equipment and investments made to achieve this strategic objective for the country,” Mr. Ranson stated.
Regarding stock levels, CSS also wants to reassure the public. According to its CEO, the company currently has 74,000 tons of sugar, of which 58,000 tons are stored in Richard-Toll and 16,000 tons have been moved to Dakar to bring the products closer to consumption areas. In addition, there are several more months of production currently underway.
“We have the capacity to produce approximately 75,000 additional tonnes by the end of the campaign. This means that CSS will be able to make nearly 150,000 tonnes of sugar available to the market in the coming months,” he assured.
This assurance was welcomed by the authorities present. For the Director of Domestic Trade, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Ndao, the open house provided an opportunity to see firsthand the stock levels and strengthen the confidence of the various stakeholders.
“First, we must commend the initiative of the CSS, a transparent and educational approach that highlights national expertise in sugar production. This visit strengthens the confidence of processors, distributors, public authorities and consumers,” he stressed.
Following the visit, the head of domestic trade expressed his satisfaction: "We are reassured by the stock levels we observed on site. Everything is in place to ensure the availability of sugar during Ramadan."
With these commitments and this reinforced logistics system between Richard-Toll and Dakar, CSS affirms that it is able, with the support of its trading partners, to ensure a smooth and secure supply of the national market throughout Ramadan.
