The Dakar Regional Narcotics Brigade (BRS), under the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), carried out two major operations this weekend, resulting in the arrest of two suspected crack traffickers.

An international network dismantled in Grand-Yoff...

On Saturday, December 13, around 10 p.m., plainclothes police officers arrested C. Tochukwu, a 45-year-old Nigerian national, near the Yacinthe Thiandoum school in Grand-Yoff. The suspect was caught in the act of possessing hard drugs. He had concealed 7.5 grams of crack cocaine, divided into two small bags wrapped in white handkerchiefs.

This operation follows a thorough investigation into an international cocaine trafficking network operating in and around the Grand-Yoff area. Investigators had established contact with the suspected trafficker and placed a test order for 2.5 grams of cocaine for 40,000 CFA francs.

Initially scheduled at the Touba Oil station in Sicap Foire, the meeting was ultimately moved to the Yacinthe Thiandoum school, where the arrest took place. A search of the suspect's home in Grand-Yoff yielded no further evidence related to the investigation.

During questioning, C. Tochukwu admitted to owning the drugs and identified a man named Aziz, also a Nigerian national, as his main supplier, without providing further details. Aziz was reluctant to cooperate with investigators. Police seized an Android mobile phone and 6,500 CFA francs.

He is being prosecuted for criminal association, possession and trafficking of hard drugs, and money laundering.

...and the dramatic arrest of a drug dealer in Yoff

On the night of Sunday, December 14, around 12:30 a.m., the Dakar BRS (Brigade de Répression du Sécurité - Anti-Drug Squad) also dismantled another crack cocaine distribution network. Y. Mbaye, born in 1978, was arrested in possession of 15 rocks of crack cocaine during a transaction at the Brioche Dorée bakery in Yoff.

The operation stems from intelligence indicating intense crack trafficking in Ngor, orchestrated by a young man named Yaya, particularly active between Yoff and Ngor.

After establishing contact, investigators ordered ten crack cocaine rocks for 50,000 CFA francs. Upon delivery, Y. Mbaye was apprehended with ten crack cocaine rocks concealed in a bag. Invited to his home for a search, the suspect initially refused before stating that he resided in the Biagui neighborhood of Yoff. Once there, he fled, triggering a chase. The suspect violently resisted the police before being subdued and taken to the station.

The security search uncovered five more rocks of crack cocaine, bringing the total to 15. Investigators also seized a Samsung phone, a scooter, his driver's license, his national identity card, and 15,000 CFA francs.

Y. Mbaye was taken into custody for criminal association, possession and trafficking of hard drugs, as well as for rebellion against law enforcement.

These two successive operations demonstrate the BRS's determination in the fight against hard drug trafficking in Dakar.
