Drame à Tambacounda : un enfant de 10 ans emporté par les eaux après de fortes pluies
A new tragedy occurred this Thursday, August 21, in the commune of Kahéne, located in the Koumpentoum department, following torrential rains that hit the area. A 10-year-old child lost his life, swept away by the raging waters of a ravine in the village of Sinthiou Mandakh.
According to witnesses reported by LeSoleil, the victim was playing with his friends near a stream heavily swollen by rainfall when the current suddenly swept him away.
Despite desperate attempts by local residents to rescue him, the boy quickly disappeared underwater. Alerted, the local population mobilized to find him. His lifeless body was eventually recovered.
This tragedy brings to four the number of victims linked to the heavy rains recorded in the Tambacounda region since the start of the season.
Two deaths had already been reported in the neighboring commune of Kouthiagaïdy, and another case was previously recorded in the department.
Faced with this alarming situation, residents are calling on the authorities to strengthen prevention and security measures around high-risk areas, particularly for children who are often exposed to danger during floods.
