A 32-year-old man was found dead by hanging in his room in the Castor neighborhood of Ziguinchor on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The tragedy was discovered around 11:00 AM, before the Yamatogne police station was alerted around noon.

The victim has been identified as Mamadou Lamine Mansaly, a laborer who lived in the same neighborhood. He was found lifeless, a rope tied to the roof of his room. An examination of the body revealed visible injuries around the neck, supporting the theory of suicide by hanging. Religious objects and Quranic verses were also discovered at the scene.

It was his sister, NF Mansaly, a shopkeeper living in the same neighborhood, who raised the alarm. She explained to investigators that her brother had gotten up around 11:00 a.m. that morning, gone outside with his wash bucket to wash his face, and then went straight back to his room. A few moments later, she went to bring him his breakfast and discovered the body. She immediately contacted the fire department, who in turn notified the police.

According to his statements, Mamadou Lamine Mansaly had been suffering from mental health issues for four years. He was violent and aggressive, even going so far as to make death threats against members of his family, according to Seneweb sources.

Firefighters, present throughout the operation, transported the body to the Peace Hospital. The public prosecutor at the Ziguinchor High Court has been informed and an investigation has been opened.
