Border police in Moussala arrested an individual suspected of trafficking marijuana between Mali and Senegal late Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2026. The operation took place at the Moussala checkpoint as part of ongoing efforts to monitor migration flows and combat cross-border trafficking.

The man arrested is named Moriké Sadiakhou, a farmer, aged around forty and residing in Kondokhou.

According to security sources, this arrest followed the exploitation of intelligence indicating that he was allegedly involved in drug trafficking between Mahinamine (Mali) and Kharakhéné (Senegal). Based on this information, a team was positioned near the checkpoint to monitor his potential passage.

Around 5:30 p.m., the suspect was spotted on a Haojue motorcycle, coming from Mali. When asked to stop for a routine check, he was subjected to a pat-down which led to the discovery of a 750g block of cannabis concealed in his underwear. Officers also seized 185,000 CFA francs from him, believed to be proceeds from his illegal activities, as well as an Infinix mobile phone.

Under brief questioning, Moriké Sadiakhou admitted to being in possession of the drugs. However, he attempted to minimize his responsibility, claiming to be merely a courier for a Malian national named Issaga Sylla, for a fee of 15,000 CFA francs.

Having been informed of his rights, including the right to legal counsel, the suspect was taken into custody. The drugs and seized items were confiscated and placed under seal.

At the end of the procedure, he was brought before the public prosecutor at the Saraya district court on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, for possession, offering and transfer of Indian hemp.
