Émigration clandestine : Le cerveau du drame de Djinack tombe dans les filets de la DNLT
The National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNLT) has arrested the individual suspected of being the main organizer of the clandestine journey that led to the tragic capsizing of a pirogue near Djinack Bara on January 1, 2026.
Police report that on the night of December 31, 2025, a boat from Djinack Kajata (Gambia), carrying over 250 people attempting to emigrate irregularly to Spain, capsized in Senegalese territorial waters. This tragedy resulted in the deaths of approximately 20 people and left over 100 missing.
Following this tragedy, an investigation was launched. The inquiries conducted by the DNLT (National Directorate for the Fight Against Terrorism) led them to the mastermind behind the project. During questioning, the suspect confessed, revealing the inner workings of this criminal operation.
According to police, the suspect worked closely with two foreign nationals based in a neighboring country. He was responsible for recruiting migrants in Senegal and transporting them to Karang, before transferring them to the point of departure. His accomplices purchased the pirogue, engines, fuel, and provisions. The suspect received a commission on each migrant recruited.
The suspect has been taken into custody and will be brought before the appropriate judicial authorities. The DNLT is continuing its investigation to identify and apprehend his accomplices who are still at large.
