Responsabilité Environnementale : Sonatel déploie son « Mois Vert » à Rufisque

To mark World Environment Day, celebrated under the theme "Plant for the good of the planet", the Sonatel Group officially launched the new edition of its "Green Month".

Driven by a strong sense of civic responsibility, this launch day was marked by a large-scale reforestation operation in Rufisque, carried out in the presence of the Managing Director, Brelotte Ba. This event embodies Sonatel's firm commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while actively involving Sonatel employees, partner networks (Tonton Vert and Sénégal Propre), and local communities in the ecological transition.

Strong ambitions and quantified objectives:

Impact Vert: 500 trees were planted on June 4th. Rigorous monitoring is already planned to guarantee an 80% survival rate for the seedlings, which will ultimately sequester 88 tons of CO2. By the end of 2026, 2,000 trees will be planted in Senegal.

Human mobilization: A powerful community dynamic with several Sonatel employees and their families, mobilized on the ground, alongside young students from Orange digital center and local populations.

Climate Responsibility: A concrete action aligned with Sonatel's CSR strategy, which aims for a 45% reduction in its CO2 emissions by 2030, a rigorous ambition validated by the international organization Science Based Targets initiative.

According to Brelotte Ba, CEO of the Sonatel Group, “Green Month” is not just a reforestation campaign; it is the concrete expression of our social responsibility. By mobilizing our employees and communities in Rufisque, we are reaffirming our commitment to building a sustainable digital ecosystem, in perfect harmony with the climate imperatives of our time.”

For several years, the Sonatel Group has also been committed to environmental protection with initiatives such as:

- Nearly 80,000 pieces of equipment refurbished in 5 years by the center dedicated to Senegal, representing a rate of 58%;

- More than 268.6 tonnes of waste recycled and transferred by the end of 2025;

- More than 121,000 homes provided with energy thanks to Orange Energies;

- The planting of 322,000 trees in 5 years.

- A green energy rate reaching up to 73% in some countries where we are present.

By 2026, Sonatel also aims to strengthen its leadership in connectivity and digital services, while reducing the digital divide and sustainably supporting the transformation of African ecosystems.
