Escroquerie au visa : l'enseignant à la retraite et la bachelière

Sentenced to three months' suspended imprisonment and ordered to pay 7 million CFA francs in damages, retired teacher O. Ba defrauded his student, B. Touré. The events date back to when the teacher was tutoring the young woman at home while she was an independent candidate for the baccalaureate exam. After she obtained her diploma, Ba offered to help her obtain a visa for Canada, pocketing a total of 6,890,000 CFA francs from her parents, according to Les Échos.

However, the same source continues, no serious legal proceedings have been initiated. As reported by the daily newspaper, the teacher mentioned an alleged organization found on Facebook, which the court deemed a complete fabrication. The investigation also revealed that the phone number provided for the application belonged to a police officer with no connection whatsoever to a travel agency.

The victim, who never obtained a visa through this channel, eventually filed a complaint. The judge ruled that the accused had knowingly deceived the family. Although the student was able to travel to Canada by other means, the court found the teacher guilty of fraud, Les Échos concludes.
