Explosion d’une bonbonne de gaz sur un site d’orpaillage : Un mort et cinq blessés graves
A violent explosion that occurred this Thursday morning in a roadside eatery located on a gold mining site in Djindji, in the department of Kédougou, left six victims, including one dead, raising the crucial issue of security in these areas of informal activity.
According to initial reports, the deceased victim was a 39-year-old Burkinabe national. He reportedly died instantly following the explosion of a gas cylinder while he was having breakfast with several other people inside the makeshift establishment.
The five other victims, severely burned, were evacuated to local medical facilities. Lacking adequate emergency equipment, they were transported by tricycle, a common mode of transport in these isolated communities.
According to witnesses, the explosion occurred suddenly, without warning, causing panic among the occupants of the eatery and those present in the surrounding area.
This tragedy once again highlights the precarious conditions and high risks faced by people living and working at gold mining sites. The use of gas cylinders, often handled without regard for safety standards, poses a constant danger in these areas where facilities are generally rudimentary.
