Visé par deux chefs d'accusation : Pape Ngagne Ndiaye nie tout devant les enquêteurs
Pape Ngagne Ndiaye is free. After his hearing this Friday at the urban security division of the central police station in Dakar, the presenter of the TFM program "Faram Facee" returned home.
The journalist is being prosecuted for complicity in insulting the head of state, as well as for complicity in acts and maneuvers likely to compromise public safety.
This follows controversial remarks made by his guest Doudou Wade, a former liberal MP, during the program broadcast on January 28th.
During his interrogation, Pape Ngagne Ndiaye categorically denied the accusations against him. According to Seneweb sources, the presenter disclaimed responsibility for the remarks made by Doudou Wade.
Maitre Babacar Cissé, one of his lawyers, detailed the course of the hearing: "He was questioned in relation to the program he hosts on TFM, the last of which featured Moustapha Diakhaté and Doudou Wade as guests. Wade made certain remarks, and it was in relation to these remarks that he was summoned to be questioned."
The lawyer emphasized the calm atmosphere of the hearing: "He answered the questions put to him very calmly. At the end of his hearing today, the police felt they should release him or let him return home, inviting him to be available to investigators who can call upon him at any time."
Mr. Cissé also thanked the investigators for their courtesy towards his client.
Pape Ngagne Ndiaye's defense is based on the nature of the live broadcast. "He is being prosecuted for complicity in insulting the head of state and complicity in acts and maneuvers likely to compromise public safety. But he denied it; he contested it," explained Mr. Babacar Cissé.
The lawyer elaborated on this argument: "When you have a live broadcast, you cannot control the people who are on the set. It is not a pre-recorded show. If that were the case, at least you can take all the necessary steps to prevent certain remarks from appearing on TV."
"But in this case, it's a show that has always been broadcast live. Those who make these remarks are responsible for their remarks, therefore not for him. He is the host, that's true, but he cannot control his guest," he concluded.
