Fatick : Le Cossuel annonce l’ouverture d’une antenne régionale pour sécuriser les installations électriques
The Director General of the Senegalese Committee for the Safety of Electricity Users (Cossuel), Samba Dieng, chaired a regional development committee (CRD) in Fatick. This meeting was part of a public awareness campaign on the importance of monitoring electrical installations, in a context marked by a resurgence of fires.
Created three years ago, Cossuel works closely with Senelec to ensure user safety. Its mission is to check the compliance of electrical installations before they are put into service.
"Poor electrical installations are the cause of numerous short circuits, fires, and also excessive electricity consumption. Cossuel has come to correct all these imperfections to protect users. After each installation, we carry out an inspection and, if the installation is compliant, the subscriber can benefit from electricity," explained Samba Dieng.
The CEO clarified that the creation of Cossuel is based on a risk mitigation plan designed to reduce electricity-related losses. "We want to get closer to the public and allow them to obtain a certificate of conformity after their installation has been inspected," he added.
Samba Dieng announced that the Cossuel branch in Fatick will be operational by the end of September, in about two weeks.
Regarding older installations that do not comply with standards, he invited users to use the services of Cossuel to benefit from a technical audit. "We are ready to support all Senegalese in securing their electrical installations," he assured.
With the opening of this regional branch, the authorities hope to significantly reduce fire risks and improve energy security in the Fatick region.
