Faux policier à Pikine : 57 000 FCFA extorqués, l’imposteur arrêté
The Pikine District Police Station arrested an individual accused of impersonating a police officer and fraud following an operation at the Dominique roundabout. Posing as a police officer from the Thiaroye Police Station, the suspect approached a street vendor selling phone accessories, claiming that his items were the result of a burglary.
Under threat, he extorted 53,000 FCFA from the merchant via his Wave account, as well as 4,000 FCFA from his daily takings, under the pretext that the money would be paid to the police. He also ordered the victim to report to the Thiaroye police station the next day with his identity card. Thanks to the vigilance of a witness, the imposter was immediately unmasked and forced to return the victim's money and phone.
Arrested and questioned by the authorities, he confessed to the facts. He is in police custody and is the subject of an ongoing investigation.
