Inondations à Koungheul : Le quartier Bamba Modou Coura aussi submergé
Following heavy rains that had already paralyzed the Campement neighborhood, Bamba Modou Coura is also facing flooding. Houses, alleys, and compounds are flooded, forcing some families to urgently evacuate.
"We are living a nightmare. The water is rising day by day and we fear a collapse. We are asking the authorities and those who are willing to act before it is too late," warns a resident standing in front of his partially flooded house.
Another victim, visibly affected, testified: "It's the first time I've seen so much water here. For a moment, I thought it was linked to the PROMOREN works."
Beyond the material damage, residents are concerned about the health risk linked to stagnant water, a breeding ground for waterborne diseases.
Faced with this situation, Dame Guèye, the president of the Koungheul Taxi Drivers Association, launched an urgent call for mobilization: "We invite young people, especially the ASCs, to mobilize to help the victims. The water is starting to invade the houses, if we wait, the damage will be irreversible."
The delegate of the Bamba Modou Coura district requested support from the State and expressed his gratitude to the prefect, the mayor and the local authorities for their visit to the site.
While awaiting a large-scale intervention by the relevant services, citizen solidarity is being organized: pumping water, clearing roads, and securing threatened homes. But concern remains, especially as weather forecasts predict more heavy rain in the coming days, raising fears that the situation will worsen.
