Fonds Force Covid-19 : seul ancien ministre détenu, le paradoxe Moustapha Diop
The situation of Moustapha Diop, former minister and mayor of Louga, is raising increasing questions. Quoted by Les Échos, his entourage denounces judicial harassment and points to a detention deemed "abnormal." Moustapha Diop remains the only former minister of Macky Sall's regime still imprisoned, for more than five months, in connection with the investigation into the COVID-19 relief funds. All his former colleagues—Sophie Gladima, Mansour Faye, Ndèye Saly Diop Dieng, Ismaïla Madior Fall, and Salimata Diop—have been released or have never been imprisoned.
His lawyers, quoted by the newspaper, add that the initial case, based on suspicions of embezzlement of nearly 900 million CFA francs, has since been considerably weakened, now only involving a few million.
While he was hoping for a release, their client is caught up in an old case, known as "Tabaski Ngom". In this case, Tabaski Ngom, former ACP of APROSI, placed under arrest warrant last January for embezzlement of more than 740 million, allegedly stated that she had given part of the funds to Moustapha Diop, which the latter categorically denies.
The deputy-mayor has been summoned for a first appearance hearing before the Financial Judicial Pool, scheduled for November 6.
His family and friends are denouncing several irregularities, notably the fact that the summons was sent to lawyers not involved in the "Tabaski Ngom" case, but only in the Covid funds case. This situation is considered "suspicious" by those close to him, who see it as a maneuver to prolong his detention.
His lawyers are calling on the Investigating Commission at the High Court of Justice to make a swift decision and order his unconditional release.
