Formalisation et accès aux marchés publics : La Fédération nationale des peintres lance le plaidoyer à Ziguinchor
The Federation of Painters of Senegal has launched a strong appeal for the formalization of the sector in order to benefit from public commissions. Its members, gathered for capacity building and formalization as part of their professional recognition, outlined the difficulties plaguing their profession.
This meeting, held for the first time in Ziguinchor, took place in Cap Skirring. The observation was unanimous: the majority of artisans still operate in the informal sector, without professional cards or official recognition. "The first challenge is to bring our members back to the Chamber of Trades, to formalize their activities, and to give them a professional level of certification," Fidèle Mendy emphasized.
This formalization is essential so that painters can not only stabilize their lives, but also compete in public markets, he continued.
For three days, the painters received training in marketing, entrepreneurship, and painting techniques, with support from private partners. However, organizers emphasized that this responsibility primarily lies with the government. "We have laid the groundwork; it is now up to the public authorities to support us," insisted Jacques Gomez, president of the National Federation of Painters.
The president of the Ziguinchor Chamber of Trades, Momar Dièye, confirmed his institution's commitment: "Our artisans are talented, but they lack the financial and technical resources to meet the standards of public procurement. The State must open doors and support these young people."
Beyond painting, it's the future of young artisans that's at stake. The federation emphasizes that training and mentorship are essential tools against despair and emigration. "A well-trained young person is ready to succeed," Fidèle Mendy firmly believes.
The actors are therefore calling on the State of Senegal to invest in the federation, to finance and support the painters so that they become recognized entrepreneurs, capable of winning public contracts and contributing fully to national development.
