As part of its plan to combat crime, the Faidherbe Research Brigade proceeded on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, to dismantle a suspected network specializing in counterfeiting and fraud, leading to the arrest of three individuals.

The operation followed the exploitation of intelligence indicating the existence of a network active in laundering counterfeit currency. In order to verify this information and identify the members of the network, the gendarmes of the Faidherbe Research Brigade, under the command of Major Lazard Khayang Tine, set up an infiltration and surveillance operation lasting several days.

Following this operational monitoring, two suspects were arrested near Dalifort, while they were travelling in a private vehicle, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.

The search conducted on site uncovered a large quantity of black paper cut to the size of US$100 bills, presumably intended for counterfeiting and fraud. An inventory carried out by investigators estimated the value of the seized bills at 46,648,000 CFA francs, or forty-six million six hundred and forty-eight thousand francs.

Taken to the Dakar Research Brigade headquarters for questioning, the two suspects allowed investigators to continue their inquiries. They then arrested a third individual, identified as the supplier of the seized counterfeit bills. Located in the Kayar area, he admitted to handing over the dollar bills to one of the suspects, asking him to find a technician capable of cleaning them.
