Frontière sénégalo-mauritanienne : Les populations de Goxxu Mbacc tirent la sonnette d’alarme
Residents of the Goxxu Mbacc neighborhood in Saint-Louis broke their silence this Sunday to denounce what they consider a violation of their territorial rights. The cause of their protest: the presence of the Mauritanian army in the buffer zone located on the border between Senegal and Mauritania.
According to the locals, Nouakchott is considering erecting a checkpoint there, a prospect that is causing serious concern.
The local population is firmly opposed to this project, believing that the area in question is in no way part of Mauritanian territory. For them, the establishment of a military post would constitute a direct threat to the safety and peace of the residents.
"We feel threatened," insist several residents, who say they are determined to defend what they consider their vital space.
Faced with this alarming situation, the residents of Goxxu Mbacc are making an urgent appeal to the highest Senegalese authorities. They are urging them to intervene as quickly as possible to prevent an escalation with unpredictable consequences. "We must act before irreparable damage is done," they warn.
This border tension arises in an already sensitive context, marked by recurring friction between the fishermen of Guet-Ndar and the Mauritanian authorities. For the local population, it is urgent to find a concerted and peaceful solution to this dispute, in order to prevent the situation from escalating into clashes of dangerous proportions.
