Bassin du Fleuve Gambie : la décrue se poursuit dans la plupart des stations hydrométriques.
The general trend observed this Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in the Gambia River basin indicates a gradual decline in water levels at the majority of monitoring stations. The latest data collected at 8 a.m. by the Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade confirms this decline, a sign of a decline in rainfall and a gradual stabilization of watercourses after the heavy rains of recent weeks.
Tributaries in general decline
In Kédougou, the water level measured this morning was 3.86 meters, compared to 3.98 meters the day before. The trend is therefore downward by 12 centimeters. However, the level remains well below the alert level set at 7 meters. For comparison, at the same time in 2024, the river peaked at 5.82 meters.
In Diaguiri, upstream from Mako, the decline is more marked: the level has dropped from 4.03 meters to 3.46 meters, a significant drop of 57 centimeters. Last year, at the same time, the water level reached 4.29 meters.
At Diahra Pont, the recorded level is 1.51 meters, a drop of 20 centimeters compared to the previous day. The Goumbayel and Sinthiou Malème stations, for their part, indicate levels too low to reach the measuring scale, confirming the gradual drying up of the tributaries.
Concerning Niokolo Koba, the trend also remains downward: 5.52 meters compared to 5.56 meters the day before, or 4 centimeters less. In 2024, at the same time, the river level was much higher, at 7.89 meters.
The Gambia River continues to recede in Mako and Kédougou
At Mako, the water level recorded this morning is 3.80 meters, compared to 4.06 meters the day before, a decrease of 26 centimeters. The level remains stable and well below the alert level set at 6 meters. In 2024, the river was at 5 meters on the same date.
At Simenti, the latest available measurement shows a level of 9 meters (recorded on October 6), while it reached 11.30 meters last year at the same time. The alert level for this station is set at 13 meters, confirming that the situation remains under control.
Slight increase in Gouloumbou
The only notable exception was the Gouloumbou station, where a slight increase was observed. The river level rose from 10.01 meters to 10.03 meters, a positive change of 2 centimeters. Despite this slight increase, the level remains 2 meters below the alert level (12 meters) and significantly lower than last year's level (11.79 meters).
A situation under control
Overall, the hydrological situation in the Gambia River basin remains stable and without immediate flood risk. The widespread decline observed at several stations reflects the gradual end of the rainy season and the normalization of the hydrological regime.
The services of the Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade continue their daily monitoring in order to anticipate any significant changes in water levels at the various stations.
