Gamou : Vaste opération de sécurisation à Thiès sous la supervision du DSP Ndiarra Sène
In preparation for the Gamou 2025 celebrations, the National Police deployed a large-scale security operation in the Thiès region. This large-scale operation, carried out during the night of September 1st to 2nd, demonstrates the mobilization of law enforcement to ensure the safety of pilgrims and the population.
An operation under high supervision
The operation was placed under the direct supervision of Ndiarra Sène, Director of Public Security. This high-level supervision illustrates the importance placed by the authorities on securing these major religious events, which attract thousands of worshippers.

Administrative controls and seizures
- 124 identity documents seized for various irregularities
- 14 vehicles immobilized for non-compliance
- 3 immobilized motorcycles
- 115,000 FCFA collected in various fines
Targeted arrests: 63 people arrested
The distribution of arrests reveals the diversity of the offenses observed:
Identity checks:
- 41 people arrested for identity checks
Public order disturbances:
- 8 people for public drunkenness
- 2 people for drunk driving
Crime:
- 4 people for a meeting flight
Narcotics:
- 2 people for possession and use of drugs
- 2 people for possession and trafficking of Indian hemp
Administrative offenses:
- 3 people for non-registration in the health file
- 1 person for driving without a license
An effective preventive strategy
This operation is part of a preventive approach aimed at:
- Deter criminal activities in the run-up to major religious festivals
- Identify and neutralize disruptive elements
- Reassure the population and future pilgrims about the security measures put in place
- Check the conformity of vehicles and administrative documents
This exceptional mobilization of public security forces, under the enlightened leadership of Divisional Commissioner Ndiarra Sène, confirms the priority given by the Senegalese State to securing major religious events in the country.
