Gassane : le village de Touba Bélèle Sendo ravagé par un violent incendie
A violent fire broke out the day before yesterday, Tuesday, in Touba Bélèle Sendo, a village located 10 kilometers from the commune of Gassane, in the department of Linguère.
Although no lives were lost, the material damage is enormous. More than seven thatched huts, stocks of hay, food supplies, clothing, and poultry were completely reduced to ashes. The victims, having lost everything in the flames, have been sleeping under the open sky since yesterday, as Ousmane Diop, the village chief, told us.
The lack of water hampered the rescue efforts.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. It took villagers several hours to extinguish the blaze. This fierce battle against the flames was particularly difficult due to the chronic water shortage plaguing the Touba Bélèle Sendo area, hindering a swift and effective response.
The Gassane gendarmerie has opened an investigation to determine the real causes of this fire which almost wiped this small village off the map.
