Grand Magal : Le bilan passe à 30 morts, dont 26 dans des accidents routiers
The death toll from the 2025 Grand Magal of Touba continues to worsen. According to the latest figures released this Friday, August 15 at 10 a.m. by Commander Yatma Dieye, head of the Information and Public Relations Division of the National Fire Brigade, 30 people have lost their lives among the 1,236 victims recorded since the beginning of the pilgrimage.
A worrying increase in accidents
Firefighters deployed to provide security and medical coverage carried out a total of 647 interventions. Of these, 313 were directly related to road traffic accidents, representing nearly half of all rescue operations.
These road accidents caused 820 victims, including 26 deaths. The increase compared to previous figures reflects the intensification of traffic as the Magal peak approaches.
The explanatory factors of this road massacre
Commander Dieye identified several major causes explaining this "significant increase in road traffic accidents." According to him, this situation results from a particularly dangerous "combination of factors."
Adverse weather conditions are the primary risk factor. "Roads made slippery by rains during the winter increase the risk of skidding." The 2025 winter season, marked by heavy rainfall, significantly deteriorated the condition of the roads leading to Touba.
Risky driver behavior is exacerbating this situation. "Added to this is speeding, often motivated by a desire to save time," emphasizes Commander Dieye. The time pressure placed on pilgrims eager to reach the holy city quickly pushes some drivers to adopt speeds unsuitable for traffic conditions.
Reckless driving completes this alarming picture. The fire brigade's communications officer cites "dangerous overtaking or failure to respect right-of-way rules" as aggravating factors.
These reckless behaviors, combined with other elements, create "a context particularly conducive to collisions and skids followed by rollovers."

La seule cause c'est le nombre élevé de participants machalla. Le chargé de com du magal serigne gaindé fatma a déclaré qu'il y'a eu plus de 6 millions de pèlerins cette années. Il est évident que la convergence de ce grand nombre de personnes vers touba ne peut pas se faire sans accident. L'autoroute ila touba a été une ingénierie sinon ce sera pire car plus de la moitié de ce grand rush vient de Dakar.
Quant est-ce une enquête pour désigner le ou les responsables de ces morts pendant le magal ?
il faut déposer une plainte à la CPI pour ces dizaines de morts et blessés juste pour assister à un carnaval
