Grand-Yoff : un commerçant envoie son épouse en prison, la rocambolesque histoire de la vaisselle à 82 millions F CFA
After a few days in prison, A. Sy was granted provisional release and was thus able to appear before the Dakar court of summary jurisdiction on charges of breach of trust. This businesswoman, based at the Grand-Yoff market, is being sued by her husband, Gora Aw, himself a merchant, for 82 million CFA francs. This amount represents the total uncollected proceeds from the sale of tableware valued at an estimated 100 million CFA francs.
According to the account in Les Échos, which attended the hearing, A. Sy was supposed to sell the merchandise, take his share, and give the remainder to his husband, who had financed the operation. He did nothing of the sort. Thus, after receiving three bounced checks and sending several unanswered formal notices to his wife, Gora Aw decided to file a complaint.
In court, the accused admitted to being in default of payment, but she disputed the amount put forward by her husband, claiming to owe him "only" 62 million.
"False," protested the defense lawyer. The lawyer, whose legal team, as reported by Les Échos, maintains the 82 million figure and is also demanding 90 million in damages.
The newspaper reports that the court adjourned the case until January 9, noting that the prosecutor requested the application of criminal law against the accused.
