Grand Yoff : Ils utilisaient le gaz lacrymogène pour vider les comptes Mobile Money
In Grand Yoff, police have put a stop to a series of targeted attacks involving fraudulent mobile money transfers. The local police station announced the arrest of three individuals suspected of belonging to a criminal organization operating primarily at night.
The case began on April 14, 2026, when a victim filed a complaint after being attacked the previous day at dawn while on her way to the Arafat Mosque. According to her testimony, several individuals intercepted her, threatened her with a knife, and sprayed her with tear gas before forcing her to unlock her mobile payment application. The assailants then transferred 15,000 FCFA before fleeing.
Thanks to technical requests, investigators quickly identified the account that received the funds. It belonged to an individual already known to police for similar offenses. Geolocation confirmed his presence at the scene at the time of the crime, leading to his arrest at his home on April 22, 2026.
Confronted with the evidence, the suspect eventually confessed. The investigation took a new turn when a second complainant, the victim of a similar attack on April 1st in Millionaire City — during which he was robbed of his phone and AirPods — formally identified the suspect and two accomplices.
This identification led to the swift arrest of the two other suspected members of the group. Analysis of phone records revealed constant communication between the three men, as well as logistical planning for their nighttime movements in several neighborhoods of Grand Yoff, confirming the structured nature of their criminal activities.
The three suspects have been taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of their actions and to identify any other potential victims.
