Grève des boulangers : deux jours sans pain au Sénégal
The Senegalese Bakers' Association (RUBS) has carried out its threat by declaring a 48-hour national strike on October 6 and 7, 2025, resulting in the total suspension of bread production and sales throughout the country.
According to Wal Fadjri, which relayed the information in its edition of Friday, October 3, bakers are denouncing an unsustainable economic situation that is jeopardizing the survival of the sector. Their national secretary, Amadou Lamine Ndiaye, pointed out that the soaring prices of flour, sugar, diesel, and electricity are forcing them to sell at a loss, forcing several bakeries to close.
Rubs accuses the state of failing to honor its commitment to reduce the price of flour by 3,000 CFA francs. In addition to rising costs, bakers are demanding the implementation of Decree 2019-22-117, intended to regulate their sector. They argue that the failure to implement this decree allows unfair competition from the informal sector to flourish.
Believing that dialogue with the minister responsible, Serigne Guèye Diop, has broken down, the bakers describe their movement as a "warning signal" for the survival of the sector and call on the government to find lasting solutions.
