The social climate is deteriorating at the Office of Lakes and Waterways (OLAC) following the dismissal of Abdoulaye Oumar Diallo, an IT specialist and staff representative. The SATES-OLAC union denounces the decision as "abusive" and accuses the management of suppressing union activity, while threatening to intensify the mobilization to secure his reinstatement.

Tensions are rising within the Office of Lakes and Waterways. The dismissal of Abdoulaye Oumar Diallo, an IT specialist and staff representative, continues to provoke a heated controversy between the General Management and the workers grouped within SATES-OLAC.

Speaking to the press on Monday, the union officially denounced what it called an "unfair dismissal" of an employee committed to defending workers' rights. Through its spokesperson, Mouhamadou Moustapha Diop, the union strongly criticized the decision made by the General Management.

According to union officials, Abdoulaye Oumar Diallo was dismissed on May 5 for "serious misconduct," following several months of tension with his superiors. This version of events is rejected by SATES-OLAC, which believes the dismissal is more likely related to his union activism and his role as a staff representative.

During this meeting with the media, Mouhamadou Moustapha Diop denounced the decision as "arbitrary" and "unjust," deeming it contrary to the principles of social dialogue and respect for workers' rights. The union also accuses the Director General, Diarra Sow, of having taken a measure that contradicts the values of "Jub, Jubbal, Jabbanti" promoted by the new authorities.

SATES-OLAC now states it is ready to intensify its mobilization efforts to obtain the reversal of the dismissal and the reinstatement of their colleague. Some union leaders are not ruling out the possibility of taking a tougher stance in response to what they consider a drift in the institution's governance.

For the time being, the OLAC Directorate General has not yet commented publicly on this matter.
