Saint-Louis Prefect Abou Sow chaired a meeting on Tuesday with taxi driver organizations, consumer associations, and the trade department to remind people of the obligation to respect the current fare schedule for transport.
For several months, some yellow-black taxi drivers have unilaterally doubled prices, provoking the anger of users in the commune of Saint-Louis. "The fares are set by an official table, and only the regional consumer committee, convened by the governor, can decide on an increase," the prefect reminded.
Regional Director of Commerce Dr. Ousmane Diallo said fares remain at 500 CFA francs for most neighborhoods, 550 CFA francs for Gokhou Mbathie, Khor, Cité Vauvert, Pikine 700, and Médine-Course, and 600 CFA francs for Sor Diagne and the bus station. At night, the fixed fare is 600 CFA francs. Authorities indicated that checks will be conducted throughout the municipal area, and offenders risk fines of 100,000 to 200,000 CFA francs, doubled in the event of a repeat offense, as well as confiscation of their license or vehicle.
