Heurté par un véhicule aux Parcelles-Assainies lors du sacre des Lions : Un ado toujours en réanimation, le chauffeur en fuite arrêté hier
A month after hitting a teenager celebrating Senegal's victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a 26-year-old shopkeeper was arrested in the Parcelles-Assainies district. The victim, seriously injured, is still fighting for his life in intensive care.
On Sunday, January 18, 2026, around 9 p.m., the euphoria of the celebrations of the victory of the Lions of Senegal in the final of the CAN Morocco-2025 almost turned into tragedy at the monument of Unit 24 of Parcelles-Assainies.
Mr. Seck, a 16-year-old boy, was violently struck by a private vehicle. The driver fled the scene, leaving the young man seriously injured on the road. Witnesses to the accident immediately rushed the victim to the hospital.
The medical certificate issued by Dr. AS of the Idrissa Pouye General Hospital in Grand-Yoff reveals the severity of the injuries: several fractures and a temporary incapacity for work (ITT) of 120 days.
Since then, Mr. Seck remains under observation in the intensive care unit, his condition still not allowing him to be questioned by investigators according to Seneweb sources.
On January 21, 2026, three days after the accident, K. Ndoye, the victim's uncle, filed a complaint against X at the Parcelles-Assainies district police station for bodily injury from road traffic with ITT of 120 days and hit-and-run.
The investigation is progressing thanks to testimonies gathered at the scene. Law enforcement is using the vehicle registration number provided by witnesses and tracing it back to the owner, which allows them to identify the driver at the time of the incident: G. Mboup, a trader born in 1999 and residing in Unit 22 of Parcelles-Assainies.
On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, more than two weeks after the complaint, G. Mboup was taken into custody at the Parcelles-Assainies police station.
During his interrogation, he stated that he was driving on the Brioche Dorée road in Unit 21 of Parcelles-Assainies, heading towards Grand-Médine. As he turned left at the Brioche Dorée, the victim allegedly grabbed onto his vehicle and climbed onto the hood, waving the Senegalese flag to celebrate the victory, before the car ran over him.
Faced with the "fury of the crowd" massed behind him, G. Mboup admits to having accelerated in order to flee.
The public prosecutor has been notified of the case. The investigation is continuing to shed light on this accident.
