Première dame Absa Faye : “Lorsqu’une femme s’élève grâce à la santé, c’est une nation entière qui avance”
The First Lady of Senegal opened the 8th edition of the Galien Africa Women's Forum, calling for shared leadership between women and men to build fairer and more resilient health systems. This year's central theme is "Women's Leadership: A Driver of Transformation for Equal Rights and Universal Access to Health in Africa."
For Absa Faye, “health is not just another sector. It is the invisible core of all human progress.” She emphasizes that every advance in health contributes to reducing inequalities.
For her, investing in health is investing in the future. "When a woman has access to health, she gains the freedom to choose, to act, and to build. And when a woman rises through health, an entire nation moves forward stronger, fairer, and more dignified."
Absa Faye advocated for strong and inclusive female leadership, arguing that Africa can no longer progress "by leaving aside half of its genius and life force."
Drawing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs 3 and 5 relating to health and gender equality, she stressed the need for concrete institutional commitment. "Supporting women's leadership in health is not just symbolic, it's strategic, because it's visionary."
According to Ms. Faye, commitment must be transformed into action. And to this end, she invites the participants to make this meeting "a space where commitment is transformed into concrete action."
And to conclude: "Together, let's make health the driving force behind a profound transformation for an Africa where access to quality care will no longer be a privilege, but an irrevocable right."
