Hôpital Dalal Jamm : un faux « bon samaritain » démasqué
Nd. Ndiaye (36 years old), a con artist specializing in targeting vulnerable patients at the Dalal Jamm Hospital in Guédiawaye, has been apprehended. According to L'Observateur, the individual, who posed as a "good Samaritan," was arrested this Sunday after another attempted scam targeting an elderly, illiterate woman.
The man had a habit of wandering the hospital corridors, looking for patients or their companions who were disoriented or uneducated. Under the guise of helping with administrative procedures or paying bills, he managed to extort large sums of money from them before disappearing, the newspaper reports.
The same source reports that his arrest was precipitated when he accompanied one of his victims to the checkout. To bolster his credibility, he presented the cashier with a military ID card bearing someone else's name. Alerted by an irregularity on the document and recalling an internal report, the employee discreetly notified security. By confronting the individual with CCTV footage she had on her phone, she positively identified the wanted suspect.
When questioned by the Golf Sud police, Nd. Ndiaye was found in possession of a driver's license and a national identity card belonging to other people, as well as loose marijuana, which he attempted to conceal at the time of his arrest. The investigation also revealed his alleged involvement in the theft of an iPhone from the same hospital last November.
He was taken into custody for impersonating a public official, theft, fraud and possession of narcotics, adds the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
