Barely out of prison after serving a four-month sentence, Mr. Diome, an IT specialist, risks returning. According to L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, he was tried last week by the Mbour High Court for making death threats and assaulting his two sisters.
On April 14th, during a family meal, as reported by Groupe Futurs Médias, the man unleashed a furious attack on his sisters, whom he accused of being "the cause of his troubles." He attacked them with a bench, causing serious injuries. Admitted to intensive care at the Thierno Mouhamadoul Mansour Barro Hospital in Mbour, the victims bear the scars of this violence: I. Diome suffered a double leg fracture with a 120-day period of incapacity for work, while ML Diome sustained injuries with a 20-day period.
Before the judge, the defendant expressed no remorse. He admitted to the acts and even reiterated his threats, insisting: "I will stay at the family home. And if they disrespect me again, I will give them the same beating."
Given this complete lack of remorse and the seriousness of the attack, the prosecutor requested a two-year prison sentence. The verdict is expected this Tuesday.
