Imam Cheikh Alioune Sow : « L'homosexualité n'a pas de place au Sénégal »

“We are Muslims and we live in a Muslim country. Homosexuality has no place here in Senegal,” was the unequivocal response of Imam Cheikh Alioune Sow. The Imam of the Boucotte mosque was responding to a question on a local radio station regarding the unnatural acts and sexual deviance reported in the press in recent days.

The Qadi at the Ziguinchor District Court (formerly the Departmental Court) commended and encouraged the authorities in their efforts to punish homosexual acts, following the strengthening of the law passed by parliament. "We 100% encourage the government to move forward," the religious leader stated.

Sheikh Alioune Sow urged the population to combat this phenomenon and resist outside influences. "We don't care about outside influences. We will stand firm against those who denounce this and want to help homosexuals. The entire population must support the government, encouraging it and letting it know we are with it, so that this law is enforced," Imam Sow stated.

Parents in the dock Imam Cheikh Alioune Sow also attacked the parents who, according to him, did not play their true role.

“All these homosexuals come from homes, from neighborhoods. It is the parents who have failed in their education, in their responsibility. Because you have your son, and where he goes, you don't care. His friends, the places he frequents... they know his behavior, his clothing. They do whatever they want [...]. These are behaviors that lead to homosexuality,” denounced Cheikh Alioune Sow, who calls for more rigor in education.

“We are Muslims. God told us to be responsible for our children and for everything that falls under our responsibility. Because tomorrow, you will have to answer to God for everything that was under your charge,” concluded Imam Sheikh Alioune Sow, Qadi at the Ziguinchor Court.
