Fête de l'indépendance à Tamba : La Gambie et la Mauritanie en guest stars
Like other towns in the interior of the country, Tambacounda celebrated the 66th anniversary of our country's accession to international sovereignty this Saturday, under the theme "Defense and Security Forces, Partners of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG Dakar 2026)." The event was attended by officials from The Gambia and Mauritania.
Administrative, religious, political and military authorities, under the chairmanship of the head of the regional executive, Guedj Diouf, were present at the Demba Diop boulevard, where the civil-military and paramilitary parade held the public in suspense, who came in large numbers despite the intense heat wave.
As is customary, the torchlight procession gave the public a preview of the parade. The performances by the participants—primary schools, secondary schools, vocational training centers, youth groups, veterans, and military and paramilitary personnel—along with the awarding of decorations, were indeed highlights of the event.
The other distinctive feature is the presence of the administrative and military authorities of the regions of Bassé (Gambia) and Guidimakhan (Selibaby) Mauritania.
At the end of this parade, the governor of Tambacounda did not fail to congratulate the commander of military zone n°4, Colonel Simon Sarr, for the perfect organization of the parade.
Guedj Diouf also highlighted the strength of the fraternal and historical ties that unite Senegal, Mauritania and The Gambia, guests of honor at the 66th anniversary, and reflected the excellent relationship of good neighborliness, solidarity and cooperation between these States, and more particularly the border regions.
