Diofior — insécurité et demande d'un commissariat de police
Diofior, a historic town and strategic gateway to the Saloum Islands, is being undermined by insecurity. With a population nearing 20,000, this rapidly growing municipality finds its potential stifled. The obstacle is not a lack of assets, but the growing shadow of instability.
The alarm has been raised by the local Pastef party coordinator, Dr. Abdoulaye Djidiack Sarr, who is calling on the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the political leader, in just a few weeks, Diofior has suffered a silent but violent assault on its local economy. "The people of Diofior have faced an alarming surge in insecurity, with nearly a dozen burglaries recorded at general food stores, mobile money points, one of the two secondary schools, and even the modern Daara [Koranic school]," laments Mr. Sarr.
Faced with the threatened economic potential of a locality eager to grow, Mr. Sarr is appealing "once again to the Ministry of the Interior for the establishment of a police station in Diofior. The municipality is ready to support this with functional premises and land for the construction of a modern police station," specifies the Pastef coordinator.
For him, it is high time to act, as Diofior possesses major assets to become a "dynamic economic hub." But insecurity is hampering investment and discouraging businesses from setting up operations.
