«J’ai attendu la fin de l’entraînement des Lions pour…» : les incroyables aveux du voleur de la table de mixage du stade Léopold-Senghor
N. Dème and N. Cissé were arrested in connection with the investigation into the theft of the mixing console from the Léopold-Senghor Stadium. Dème is believed to be the thief, and Cissé the receiver of stolen goods. They were taken into custody at the Parcelles Assainies police station on charges of theft and receiving stolen public property.
The events took place on the day of the Lions' final training session in Dakar before their departure for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. According to L'Observateur, which broke the story, N. Dème reenacted his actions when questioned by investigators.
Having come to watch the farewell between Pape Thiaw's men and the public, the accused walked towards the stands. His attention was drawn to a group of individuals gathered in the conference room of the newly renovated sports facility.
"The organizers were asking for the venue manager to be called to fix their microphone, which wasn't working," he recounts. "Knowing what I was doing, I pretended to be a member of the stadium staff. Calmly, I intervened and resolved the microphone problem."
After this feat, the man decided to stay in the room until the end of the match, to give the impression that he was available as a member of the stadium's technical staff for any future malfunctions. Once everyone had left, the area was clear.
“I waited until the Lions’ training session was over to grab the imposing mixing console,” confessed the man with dreadlocks. “I managed to leave the stadium without being stopped. On the evening of the theft, I rushed to sell the mixing console, which has an estimated market value of 500,000 CFA francs, for the paltry sum of 40,000 CFA francs to my fence, N. Cissé.”
He was immediately visited by police officers, accompanied by his accomplice. The two men live in Grand-Yoff, hence the active involvement of the local police station in resolving the case. L'Observateur reports that N. Cissé also confessed. He was arrested at his home, and the mixing console was found there during a search, concludes the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
