Joal : un trou de 13,7 millions F CFA à la station Neptune Oil, un pompiste arrêté
A. Mbodji, a gas station attendant at the Neptune Oil station in Joal, has been in prison since last Friday. He is accused by his boss, K. Diakhaté, of embezzling 13.7 million CFA francs from the station's coffers.
Last June, as L'Observateur recounts, a conflicting inventory revealed a financial discrepancy in the gas station attendant's accounting records. Although he initially admitted the facts and promised to reimburse the money within a week, A. Mbodji never honored his commitment, prompting his employer to file a complaint on February 11th.
Before the investigators of the Joal gendarmerie, the accused attempted to minimize his responsibility. As reported by the daily newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias, he disputes the overall amount, admitting only to a loss of 3.4 million, and justifies the remainder by citing fuel sales on credit granted to 36 fishermen from Joal. However, his inability to provide the identities of these creditors weighed heavily against him, the same source indicates.
At the end of his custody, the gas station attendant was brought before the prosecutor in Mbour and placed under a detention order, pending his trial before the High Court of Mbour, where he will have to answer for financial malfeasance.
