In a case that exposes the devastating effects of online gambling, a 25-year-old worker saw his life turned upside down after succumbing to the temptation of games of chance. A. Samb, an employee at a multi-service company in the Port of Joal, is now facing charges of massive embezzlement.
The story begins with a relationship of trust: NK Loum, owner of a business in Joal, entrusts his employee with the daily management of the receipts. The mission seems simple: collect the money and hand it over each evening.
But gradually, A. Samb succumbed to the lure of betting on 1xBet. Caught between the hope of easy winnings and a downward spiral of losses, he ended up embezzling from his employer's funds. The total amount embezzled reached the staggering sum of 7,016,850 FCFA, according to Seneweb sources.
During a routine inventory, the boss discovers the truth. The extent of the shortage is considerable. Even more worrying: A. Samb has vanished; his phone is no longer working. For 48 hours, the young man remains untraceable, likely consumed by guilt and fear of the consequences.
On February 14th, around noon, overcome by remorse or realizing the dead end, A. Samb resurfaced. Facing his boss, he confessed: all the money had been lost on the 1xBet betting platform. Not a single franc could be recovered.
The complaint filed by the victim quickly set the wheels of justice in motion. The Joal territorial brigade, under the jurisdiction of the Mbour gendarmerie company, arrested the suspect. A. Samb confessed to the charges against him.
Following an investigation, he was brought before the Mbour High Court on Monday, February 16, 2026, for breach of trust.
