Justice : Babacar Ba exige une réforme pour des juges vraiment indépendants
Babacar Ba, president of the NGO Forum du Justiciable, is sounding the alarm about a persistent flaw in Senegal's judicial architecture: the appointment of investigating judges by order of the Minister of Justice. A procedure he considers incompatible with the principles of judicial independence.
"As long as investigating judges are appointed by a member of the executive, their independence will remain fragile, if not non-existent," he says.
For Babacar Ba, this structural dependence compromises the neutrality of sensitive investigations and exposes magistrates to political pressure. He calls for a profound reform of the appointment process, advocating for a transparent mechanism, overseen by the High Council of the Judiciary or an independent body.
